What to expect
Babysalmesang (in English: baby-hymn-singing) is a hugely popular musical activity for babies and new parents in Denmark, with classes taking place once a month (on select Saturday mornings) at Eliaskirken in Vesterbro. It is an opportunity for you and your child to:
– Enjoy music, movement and rhythm together
– Share a playful and stimulating experience
– Learn songs and hymns in the beautiful church space
– Meet other local parents and babies
This class is an introduction to the practice of Babysalmesang and will take place in English, using English songs and hymns that everyone can join in with. Don’t worry if you are not the most confident singer – your voice will always be your baby’s favourite!
During the coffee break there will be a chance to chat, ask questions, and find out about regular Babysalmesang classes in your local church.
The class is FREE but places are limited, so booking is required. Just book one ticket per child.
Babysalmesang and Toddler music time are hosted by Folkekirken for Internationals and Pastor Maria Fihl.
The class is led by Sarah Maxted. Sarah is a British singer who trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. She is an experienced church musician and music educator, having previously taught baby and toddler classes at The Little London Music School and worked in the music team at St Martin-in-the-Fields church in London. Sarah currently sings at Østervangkirken in Glostrup.
